"The GeoWoodstock Godfather"

Joe Armstrong, JoGPS, had an idea back in 2003.  The avid geocacher from Tennessee planned to gather the top ten geocachers in one location.  He thought, why not invite others?  And so, GeoWoodstock began.   JoGPS says it started as “all about the numbers” but continues as all about the number of new friends you make and smiles you share.

GeoWoodstock honors Joe’s legacy as we gather and celebrate the worldwide Geocaching community he helped bring together.

The 2015 Block Party at Geocaching HQ featured Labs Caches celebrating 15 years of Geocaching. Among the labs, the founders and lackeys placed a very special tribute to Joe, recognizing his contributions to the Geocaching community. Though it wasn’t actually the first ever Geocaching event, it would become the first Mega-Event and the first Giga-Event in both the U.S. and Canada.
